Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

The DVM degree program is composed of the Preveterinary Medical Sciences and the Veterinary Medical Sciences, allowing the school to accommodate students from various systems of education. The program ranges from four to seven years in length depending upon an individual’s academic background.

The majority of students apply for entry into the fourth year of the seven-year program, the first year of the veterinary medical sciences. These students generally complete the requirements for the DVM degree within four calendar years of successful academic progress.

Students seeking entry without the qualification necessary for direct entry into the veterinary medical sciences may apply for entry into the preveterinary medical sciences, which can include up to three years of coursework that will prepare students to enter the veterinary medical sciences.

Dual degree programs provide veterinary medical students with the opportunity of studying Public Health or pursuing an MSc in research with areas of concentration in Anatomy, Marine Medicine, Microbiology, Morphological and Clinical Pathology, Parasitology, Pharmacology or Wildlife Conservation Medicine while pursuing their veterinary medical education.

Additionally, preveterinary medical sciences’ students who do not hold a first degree and wish to obtain a bachelor’s degree in the course of their studies may be eligible to do so. Evaluation of prior educational background will determine eligibility and appropriate placement within the BSc/DVM program.
