Mission

The mission of the SGU Nursing Department is:
“to provide quality nursing education programs that respond to the evolving
health care needs of the nation, the region, the hemisphere, and the world”.

We will make our expertise available to local communities and public agencies in ways that are consistent with the teaching, research and practice functions that contribute to the intellectual and economic development in nursing and healthcare within our sphere of influence.

Vision

Our vision is:
“to help shape the future of nursing education, research, and practice by
providing students with the international and intercultural knowledge they need to succeed in today’s global nursing and healthcare community”.

We envision educating professional nurses who will become nurse leaders who are committed to professional ideals, lifelong learning, and meaningful practice within an increasingly technological health care system world-wide.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the nursing program is consistent with that of SGU which is:

“to develop the intellectual capacity, creativity and professionalism of our
students – immersing them in the rich diversity of human experience and
aspirations, thereby preparing them to shape the future of our world while
adding to the knowledge base of humankind.” (SGU University Catalog, 2009-2010).
