ACADEMIC Nursing PROGRAMS

Program Overview
The SGU Bachelor of Science Nursing program prepares graduates to function in the role of primary health care providers engaged in a broad range of health promotion, maintenance and restorative services to diverse populations in a variety of settings. Students learn how to make informed decisions as a primary-care provider and professional by integrating knowledge from the humanities, liberal arts, sciences and the discipline of nursing so that they can work effectively and collaboratively with individuals, groups, families, and communities. Each graduate is also prepared to apply both the art and science of nursing to patient care. Clinical experiences are provided in the hospitals and health clinics and facilities on the island where students get the opportunity to care for patients with the medical and health care conditions that they are being presented in class sessions. A clinical immersion experience provides opportunities for building clinical reasoning, management, and evaluation skills.
