During her time as a student at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, Angela Gómez received a BA in Anthropology in 1992, a MA in Applied Anthropology in 1996, and a PhD in Applied Anthropology in 2003.
Dr. Gómez received a NSF Post Doctoral Fellowship to conduct research based at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Santiago, Chile, for the years 2003-2005. This two year longitudinal study focused on poverty research, exploring agency capacity and its impact upon families participating in the Puente Program — an anti-poverty initiative aiming to eradicate extreme poverty in Chile.
Dr. Gómez was a guest lecturer, guest presenter and co-instructor on several occasions during the years 2001-2003 at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. In 2004 she was invited to be a guest lecturer at the Universidad Jesuíta Alberto Hurtado (Alberto Hurtado Jesuit University), Santiago, Chile and in 2005 she was a visiting professor at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Santiago, Chile.
Dr. Gómez joined St. George’s University, School of Medicine, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in 2005.
Some awards received include the National AIDS Directorate Grant (2008), the National Science Foundation Post Doctoral Fellowship (Spring 2003), Outstanding Evaluation Award (Spring 2003) granted by Hillsborough County Children’s Board, FMHI Faculty/Staff Scholarship Award (1999–2003), USF’s Performance Bonus Plan Award (2001–2002) granted for exemplary performance.
