Admission Requirements for All Graduate Programs

Candidates interested in a graduate degree program or MD/MSc program must complete and submit the School of Medicine application form and include the Graduate Addendum. Those applying for the DVM/MPH or DVM/MSc programs must complete a School of Veterinary Medicine application and the Graduate Addendum.

Those applying for a dual degree program will be reviewed by the Committee on Admission for the Medical or Veterinary Medicine program first. Upon acceptance, an interview will be conducted by an appropriate representative of the requested program of study, and the Dean of Graduate Studies and faculty members will review the request for the dual degree program.

MPH Admission Requirements

North American applicants:
  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or college
  • Work experience or a strong interest in public health
  • Two letters of recommendation


British applicants:

  • A first or second class degree
  • Work experience or a strong interest in public health
  • Two letters of recommendation


All other models of education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, BSc or equivalent with a strong science background
  • Work experience or a strong interest in public health
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • If English is not the applicant's principal language, the official record of a score of at least 600 from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (written) or 250 points (computer-based) must be submitted.

Or:

  • Minimum equivalent of two years academic education such as an Associates Degree or diploma and at least five years experience in a community health field
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • If English is not the applicant's principal language, the official record of a score of at least 600 from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (written) or 250 points (computer-based) must be submitted.

MSc and PhD Admission Requirements

North American Applicants:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with a GPA of 3.0 and a strong science background
  • GRE tests are not required, but a strong GRE performance enhances an application
  • Candidates for the Microbiology MSc degree must have at least a 3.0 GPA in microbiology courses
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Prior research experience is a benefit, but not a requirement


British Applicants:

  • Applicants in the United Kingdom system must have a first or second class degree.
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Candidates for the Microbiology MSc degree must have strong scores in microbiology courses
  • Prior research experience is a benefit, but not a requirement.


All Other Models of Education:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, BSc or the equivalent with a strong science background
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Candidates for the Microbiology MSc degree must have strong scores in microbiology courses
  • Prior research experience is a benefit, but not a requirement.

Admission Deadlines for August and January Matriculation
The Graduate Studies programs begin first-term classes in mid-August and again in mid-January. The Board of Admission utilizes a rolling admission policy; therefore applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. The final deadline for receipt of applications and all supporting documentation is June 15th of the current year for the August class and November 15th of the preceding year for the January class.

Prospective candidates should note that entering classes are highly competitive and applications completed early have the advantage of being reviewed at the beginning of the admission's process.

The time necessary to secure official transcripts, standardized test scores and letters of recommendation should be taken into consideration. The Board reserves the right to defer an application to the following semester if there are no available seats.

All documents must be in English or must have a certified English translation attached and must be originals or certified copies. In addition to the completed application, the following are required:

  • Application fee: $75.00 US for Dual MD/MPH and MD/MSc, $50.00 for MSc or MPH, and $50.00 for DVM/MSc, DVM/MPH or MSc or MPH programs.
    • Payment method:
      • Check or money order: Make payable to St. George’s University. Checks must be drawn on a US bank.
      • Credit Card: Complete credit card form and submit with application.
  • Passport-sized photograph with your name and social security number, if applicable, printed on the back.
  • Undergraduate coursework: Official degree bearing transcripts must be submitted by the undergraduate institution. For those applying before completion of the undergraduate program, current transcripts may be sent. Accepted students must then submit official degree bearing transcripts.
  • Other academic work: Official transcripts of graduate course work, other coursework or academic certificates from all other institutions attended must be submitted.
  • Standardized Examination Scores: Official scores must be sent to the University by the testing agency. Though not required, good scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) will enhance an application.
  • Official TOEFL scores must be submitted if English is not your principal language.
  • Two letters of recommendation, preferably from science professors.
  • Essays: A personal statement with a maximum of 1500 words and an additional essay addressing an issue as stated on the graduate addendum are required. (Name and social security number, if applicable, must appear on each numbered page.)

Admission Process
The Office of Admission will acknowledge receipt of the candidate’s application within two weeks of its arrival.  A candidate is informed of any more required supporting documents missing at that time. A candidate will receive notice when the application file is complete. Within a month after receipt of the complete application and supporting documentation, the application will be reviewed to determine whether an interview will be granted.

The Office of Admission encourages candidates who have been approved for an interview to request interviews in Grenada and will schedule one upon the applicant’s request. The University recognizes that financial considerations may prevent many candidates who reside at great distances from Grenada from choosing this option. Interviews, therefore, may be conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom, Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, the Caribbean or other locations that best serve the diverse applicant pool.

The interview gives us a chance to know candidates better and gives the candidates a chance to articulate themselves in ways that might not show in an application.

A student’s acceptance into a Graduate Studies program in either the School of Medicine or School of Veterinary Medicine is granted upon the presumption by the Committee on Admission that: (1) All courses currently being taken by the applicant will be completed prior to registration.(2) All statements made by the applicant during the admission process, whether oral, written, or in submission of academic documentation, are true and correct. If it is subsequently discovered that false or inaccurate information was submitted, the University may nullify a candidate’s acceptance or, if the student is registered, dismiss the student.

The Health Care form must be completed before registration.  Within three weeks of acceptance notification, a student must submit a signed Acknowledgment of Admission along with a non-refundable tuition deposit in order to reserve a seat in the class.
