Learning Strategy Coordinator/Advisor

The Department Educational Services (DES) is seeking to recruit a Learning Strategies Coordinato/Advisor, at the level of an Instructor, in the School of Medicine at St. George’s University.

Over 30 Years of SGU Higher Learning on the Caribbean Island of Grenada!  Over three decades ago St. George’s University was founded as a School of Medicine. Since that time the University has added a School of Veterinary Medicine and School of Arts and Sciences which includes an internationally focused MBA program.  Today, over 7,300 doctors and more than 500 other SGU graduates have taken the St. George’s University philosophy of global education and applied their education around the world.

The Learning Strategies Coordinator is responsible for providing primarily medical students at SGU with support and education in areas related to academic skill enhancement.  These areas include, but are not limited to, study skills, test-taking skills, multiple-choice question skills, management of test-taking anxiety, and preparing for university and national standardized exams, i.e. USMLE and SGU standardized, comprehensive examinations.

The services are provided in a variety of settings:  individual, group, and presentation formats, as well as the development, maintenance and dissemination of web-based learning strategies materials, for the utilization of students campus-wide.  In addition, the Coordinator is available to teach a course in St. George’s University in an area of expertise.

Within the Department of Educational Services (DES), the Coordinator also provides consultation and assistance to faculty and staff.  The Coordinator works very closely with the DES Demonstrators in both the Academic Enhancement and Individual Advancement Programs and is available to work on special projects and tasks as requested by the Director of Student Services and/or the Chair of DES.  An additional role of the Coordinator is that of liaison between the Psychological Services Center and DES for students presenting with counseling needs and/or identified learning disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:  An appropriate Master’s Degree with a background in Science.  Experience in fields related to Educational Development / Learning Skills / Curriculum Development or similar.  Experience in a learning skills unit or comparable program in a University, preferably in a medical education or healthcare background.  Experience in course management software, i.e. Blackboard or ANGEL preferred. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and is competitive with North American AAMC standards.
