Housing Forms and Procedures

Entering Students
All entering undergraduate BS or BA, premedical and preveterinary medical students are required* to live on campus for their first year. Post baccalaureate and foundation students are required to live on campus for the duration of their program.

All entering medical (Grenada), veterinary, and graduate students are required* to live on campus for the first term and have the option to contract campus housing for the following term. Students who contract only for their first term will enter a housing lottery in the fall if they wish to live on campus for their second term.

* Residents of Grenada are exempt from this requirement.

KBTGSP students are required to live in campus housing for both terms of the one year program.

For all new entering students, it is very important to fill out, sign, and return the University Housing Form for your program as soon as it is available and your deposit has been submitted. The entering student housing form is a contractual agreement subject to the University's Housing Cancellation Policy.

Roommate requests will be honored but must be submitted by both students in writing with ample time as rooms and roommates will be assigned approximately one month prior to your arrival on campus. Students will be notified via SGU email as to their housing assignment.

You are eligible to seek off-campus housing if you have children and/or pets; or if you received special permission through the Housing Office. If you intend to live off campus, you must still return the housing form indicating this and make sure you have obtained the necessary approval.

The Housing Office reserves the right to change or modify housing assignments and to fill housing vacancies as necessary. Room and roommate assignments are subject to change. No guarantee is implied by notification of a specific assignment prior to arrival on campus.
Enrolled students will not be released from housing contracts once the term has commenced. Students who contract for housing, whether for one or two terms, are obligated to pay the stated charges and fees and are not eligible for a refund if they cancel housing when they are registered for classes. For further information students should refer to the SGU Housing Cancellation Policy.

August 2012 Housing Forms

All entering students must submit a completed housing form.

Completed housing forms are due by May 23, 2012  via fax to +1 631-665-5590 or email to admission@sgu.edu. If depositing after May 23, please send your housing form with your acknowledgement of admission at the time of payment.

Subsequent Terms

Medical, Veterinary Medical, and Graduate Students:
After the first term, students who did not previously contract for housing and wish to live on campus must enter the housing lottery .*

Premedical, Preveterinary and Undergraduate Students:
After the first year, continuing students who wish to remain on campus must enter the housing lottery.*

*Students promoted into the MD or DVM do not participate in the lottery and will live in Freshman MD or DVM housing for the first term.

*Lottery Procedures for Upper Class Students who wish to live on Campus:
In the presence of the Dean and a Student Government representative, the lottery is drawn for singles and doubles by suites or for studio type accommodation by individuals; therefore, students are asked to submit their forms in groups based on the type of housing they require. If you do not have the required number of students to fill a suite but would like to live on campus, the Housing Office will group and match up all incomplete suites before the lottery is drawn. Results of the lottery and placement in dorms are sent to students' SGU email accounts and can be viewed on the SGU housing website.

*A housing lottery is held in October/November for Spring semester and again in March/April for the Fall semester. Students desiring off-campus housing can obtain a list of University recommended housing from the Housing Office. The University reserves the right to require students to live on campus for the full duration of their stay in Grenada.

Clinical Years
Housing opportunities vary at different clinical centers, affiliated hospitals, and veterinary clinical locations. In all cases, during the medical and veterinary clinical years, housing is the responsibility of the student. Some affiliated hospitals in the United Kingdom provide single accommodations for students. Students are responsible for the cost of these accommodations.
